"Poetry and hums aren't things which you get, they're things which get you. All you can do is go where they can find you" – A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
The beginning of Autumn is always tinged with slight sadness, the wonderful heat of summer begins to subside and we must all begin to tentatively apply layers to our outfits — starting with putting away the legs and graduating into jumpers and coats.
The upside of this is, of course, that it means ‘Fashion Week’ season begins — with it the promise of new additions to the wardrobe. Though this is obviously exciting, picking your pieces to update your collection (possibly already a little full) is difficult when there are so many new trends to pick from.
This year the key looks for women A/W 13 are tartan, pastel pink, Punk, tailoring/menswear, oversized outerwear, gilding (think Rococo and Popes) — all topped with a hint of 20’s velvets and warmth.
In menswear; Layering grey, bomber jackets, claret colours, tartan, leather and winter neckerchiefs. Playing with texture is another important consideration — layering silks, tweeds, light knits and sheen materials with the heavier winter additions has seen a massive consideration in recent seasons.
